IDA-NLB Public Talk Series on Cloud Computing: Gentle Introduction to Cloud Computing

Abstract

The emergence of cloud computing model has enabled many enterprises to re-examine their IT strategies in order to leverage the benefits of a more agile and responsive infrastructure. This talk will provide a general introduction to cloud computing, its different models as well as best practices and case studies of cloud adoption from enterprises. The evolution of the cloud computing market will be discussed with an overview of the key players. The elements that go into a cloud adoption strategy including both business and technology architecture aspects will discussed in the context of case studies.

About the Speaker

Khalid Ahmed is the Chief Architect and Director of Technology Research at Platform Computing. In over 15 years at Platform, he worked in a number of roles including development, product management and architecture. He has been active in defining and implementing the key grid and cluster computing technologies to serve large-scale mission critical distributed computing environments. His work on distributed scheduling, wide-area resource sharing, workload management, system automation, and high availability have been incorporated in various Platform products. More recently he has been working on cloud management systems, leading the architecture and development of Platform ISF and working with customers implementing their private clouds. Khalid oversees a team of architects and is responsible for managing Platform’s technology strategy for both high performance computing and enterprise IT. Khalid holds a MA.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto.
