The vision of the National Grid programme to facilitate the seamless use of an integrated cyber infrastructure in a secure, effective and efficient manner to advance scientific, engineering & biomedical R&D, with the longer term goal of transforming the Singapore economy using grid.

The National Grid Office (NGO) is making this Grid R&D Call for Proposals to encourage and support high quality R&D in grid computing and its applications that are in line with the vision of the National Grid programme. This call for proposals is funded by the Science & Engineering Research Council and Biomedical Research Council of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.

We are pleased to announce that the Call for Proposals is open from 17 Jan 2005 for 1 month. The deadline for submission has been extended to 23 Feb 2005.

Research scientists and engineers from all local public research institutes (except A*STAR RIs), universities and polytechnics are eligible under this Call for Proposals. Under this scheme, NGO will normally only support projects with total project value (this excludes contributions in-kind, existing equipment and the cost of existing manpower as well as building cost) up to $500K. Typical period of support is up to three years.

All qualifying proposals will be submitted to a NGO-appointed research panel for evaluation. The panel will comprise members nominated by the universities and research institutions. The panel will study the proposals and the referees’ comments, score, rank and recommend award (or decline) for each proposal. The major criteria for award will be the technical merits of the proposal, abilities of the researchers, and their past performance in prior awards. The focus of the proposals would be on Core Grid Computing Technology and Grid-Enabling of Applications. Proposals that involve collaboration with organizations external to that of the principal investigator will be more favorably looked upon.
