Physical Sciences VGC

The Physical Science VGC is established to promote awareness and use of grid computing technology to address computational science problems encountered in engineering and manufacturing. The VGC serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas on how grid computing can be harnessed to tackle the aforementioned challenges.

The VGC strives to cater to a multi-disciplinary research community and covers areas such as collaborative engineering design and simulation, computational mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, computational electromagnetics, material and industrial chemistry, bioengineering, nanotechnology, intelligent engineering systems, large-scale remote visualization etc.

To promote awareness and to generate related activities in this area, the Institute of High Performance Computing has developed a basic Science and Engineering Grid Portal. The goal of this portal effort is to evolve a platform where researchers and vendors can offer a range of computational science utilities and services. Such utilities could include pre- and post-processing tools as well as numerical solvers and data analysis software. 3rd-party software could also be provisioned for academic R&D purposes. This platform is also intended to encourage researchers to contribute software and utilities that are relevant to physical science and engineering applications. Our vision is for the platform to grow in terms of the quantity and the sophistication of the tools.

The Science and Engineering Grid Portal will be available for trial in October 2004. We welcome and value your feedback or suggestions.

The VGC will also introduce activities such as conferences, seminars and workshops to facilitate the exchange of ideas among the community.
