Abstract
Recent
advances in technology have created a new class of small,
low-cost, low-power, and intelligent sensor devices with
sensing, computation, and wireless communication capabilities.
In the future, such intelligent sensor devices may be extensively
embedded into our living environment.
Wireless sensor networks and sensor Grids are exciting emerging
technologies with great potential to revolutionize many segments
of the economy and our life. In this talk, I will introduce
the concept of wireless sensor networks and outline some
of their important applications. I will also explain the
concept of sensor Grids, which extend the Grid computing
paradigm to the sharing of sensor resources in wireless sensor
networks. Finally, I will discuss the relevance of wireless
sensor networks and sensor Grids to the future IT landscape
in Singapore.
