Abstract
Today, we are familiar with multi-threaded
applications running on time-sharing SMP multi-core system.
In the near future, Sun will release Chip-Multi Threading
(CMT)-based systems that are capable of 8-cores with 4 hardware
threads each in a single socket. With such advances in hardware
technology, processing power of servers has increased dramatically
and it has become more crucial to be able to maximize the
utilization of the computing resources.
Solaris 10 (S10) was released for general availability in
March 2005. Sun spent more than 3 years developing this operating
system. One of the key design centre of Solaris 10 is Optimal
Resource Utilization, with which Sun introduced hardware
virtualization technology (zones) tightly integrated with
resource management.
This seminar aims to introduce the participants the Solaris
10 zones technology, resource management and other relevant
features in Solaris 10, developed to achieve optimal utilization
of computing resources.
Biodata
Liang Seng Quee has 16+ years of IT experience, ranging from
delivering Singapore National Identity Card System and CORBA
development at Xerox Software Lab to providing consultancy
as Principal Consultant at Hewlett-Packard Consulting. At Sun,
he took on several roles such as IT Solutions Architect, Enterprise
Solutions Ambassador and Security Technologies Ambassador.
He
is currently Operating Systems Ambassador and a Staff Engineer
in Sun's Market Development Engineering. Liang Seng
Quee’s key charter is to assist ISVs to develop their
products using Sun's technologies, with special focus on
Solaris 10. He is responsible for all ISVs in South East
Asia.
Virtualization
Virtualization
allows enterprises to make better use of their
compute resources. It complements Grid Computing
by bringing about more dynamic networks and resources.
This seminar is part of an on-going series on Virtualization.
